Summary of Automobile Standards Revision

1. The wording and priority designations of some tasks were changed, but the required percentages of P-1, P-2, and P-3 tasks remain the same: 95% of P-1, 80% of P-2, and 50% of P-3.

2. Some tasks were removed and some tasks were added to reflect current technology and practice.

3. The overall number of hours required remains the same (1,080 hours for certification in all 8 areas), although the distribution of hours among the areas has changed slightly:

a. Brakes 105
b. Electrical/Electronic Systems 230
c. Engine Performance 220
d. Suspension & Steering 95
e. Automatic Transmission & Transaxle 125
f. Engine Repair 120
g. Heating & Air Conditioning 95
h. Manual Drive Train & Axles 90
TOTAL HOURS 1,080

4. A definition for "task" has been added to the Educational Terms section within the standards. "Task" is defined as a psychomotor or cognitive entry-level learning activity consisting of one or more measurable steps accomplished through an instructor presentation, demonstration, visualization or a student application.

5. Additional housekeeping items have been changed for consistency between standards.
