2001 Automotive Awards of Excellence
Winners Announced
Leesburg, VA., December 19, 2001 -- The 2001 winners
of the 18th annual Automotive Awards of Excellence Competition
are Parkside High School Auto Technology Program, Salisbury,
MD; Trident Technical College Automotive Program, Charleston,
SC (post-secondary, generic program); and New Mexico Junior
College Ford ASSET Program, Hobbs, NM (post-secondary, manufacturer
affiliated program). The awards were presented at the general
session of the ACTE annual convention on Friday, December 14,
2001 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)
contributes $200,000 each year for these awards honoring programs
selected by the Industry Planning Council (IPC). National winners
and runners-up and state winners also receive donations of tools
and equipment from the automotive industry.
The runners-up this year are Tuscola Technology Center Automotive
Technology Program in Caro, MI and Central County Occupational
Center Truck Mechanics Program in San Jose, CA for secondary
programs; Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, FL and
North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, IA for post-secondary,
generic programs; and Sheridan Technical Center, Broward Community
College in Hollywood, FL and Clark College in Vancouver, WA
for post-secondary manufacturer affiliated programs.
Each of the three national winners received a $10,000 Automotive
Service Excellence (ASE) student assistance scholarship grant
along with a $10,000 ASE certificate for Snap-on tool purchase.
The six runners-up received a $5,000 ASE student assistance
scholarship grant and a $5,000 ASE certificate for Snap-on tool
purchase. Each state winner received a $1,000 student assistance
scholarship grant.
The Industry Planning Council is a 54-year old business/education
partnership of the Association for Career and Technical Education
(ACTE), the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence
(ASE), and the Alliance for Automobile Manufacturers (AAM).
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)
was founded in 1972 as a non-profit, independent organization
dedicated to improving the quality of automotive service and
repair through voluntary testing and certification. Currently,
