The best way to get started on certification of your program is to download the appropriate program standards from the NATEF website. The program standards can be found under the Certification Process tab under a link called 'Program Standards'. The program standards are generally about 100 pages in length, and can be downloaded in pdf format.

The program standards documents contain the policies, procedures, standards, task lists, and tools and equipment lists for program certification. Read this document thoroughly and familiarize yourself with the requirements. Then do a preliminary survey of your program to determine how it measures up to the standards. If there are areas that need work, begin a plan to accomplish those improvements.

When you have done this and feel you are ready to proceed with certification, you will need to order a certification manual from the NATEF office. There is an order form on the NATEF website, also under the Certification Process tab, which can be submitted online with credit card information, or printed out and submitted by mail or fax with a purchase order or check. The certification manual contains all of the paperwork that you need to go through your self-evaluation process and submit your application for certification. You can also submit your application for certification online. The NATEF staff will guide you through the rest of the process once we receive your application.
